One of the best decisions I made this year / top tip for PR students

This weekend, I stood up and told potential students about my experiences studying PR and why I chose to study it at Bournemouth. Every time, I found myself referring back to my work experience. Not only referring here but also in my placement applications. A realisation hit me which is the reason behind this post! I know it’s another kind of advice post but I felt I wanted to post it!

Although it may be hard to believe when you meet me, I’ve not always been as confident as I am now. That was until a year of uni and especially this summer. I talk about it a lot, but this summer I spent 5 weeks at Frank PR in Camden, London on their work experience program. To many, it may not seem like a lot, but the decision to walk up to someone at a conference and ask for work experience has changed a big part of my life.

Being able to tell potential students what I was able to do in the summer was amazing. It also gave me a chance to reflect on the skills and experience I gained from this. It made me realise how my units at Uni helped me in the tasks I was given. Now applying for placements, I am finding that having Frank on my CV is helping me to stand out. Even if it isn’t the name, the experience that I can say I have done helps me even more. The industry contacts that I now have from taking 5 weeks out of my summer is amazing.

If there is one tip for anyone, it is to get as much experience as you can. Not only did I gain experience in the summer, it is also helping me with my placement and I made some amazing friendships.

I’m so motivated to succeed, but it wouldn’t have been possible without that decision I made in March. I would not have had the confidence boost or half the self-belief I have now. I would also not have had half of the opportunities.

I’ll never be able to thank every person who provided me with those opportunities this year. It is building my future and I can’t wait to spend my placement year in the industry.

So get out there and get experience, you will not regret it that’s for sure.

I go back up to London soon and I cannot wait.

Love this! I’m a student myself and experience is by far the hardest but most important thing to get. Love your blog.

It is scary and hard to find experience but it is so beneficial! Thank you so much, I’m really glad you like it 😊 Luce x
