Firstly, who is this person?
My name is Lucy Hayball. I am a 20 year old girl with a passion and curiosity for the communications industry. A girl who is a student of BA Public Relations at Bournemouth University currently on her placement year at L’Oréal. I never really knew what PR was until I started looking at Universities but now, it is an industry I have fallen in love with. In September 2015, I packed up and left my home nestled away in Wiltshire to move to Bournemouth to pursue my love for communications. After finishing my second year at University, I have moved to London to start working for L’Oréal, the next part in achieving my dream.
WHY THIS BLOG
LucyEmily.co.uk started off as LifeofaPRstudent. A way for me to express my thoughts and feelings on the PR industry, Uni life or anything else that interested me. The site moved to LucyEmily.co.uk in January 2017 so that I could have more creative control and a more professional looking site. This blog allows me to delve into the industry and write about things that interest me.
This blog is a mix of PR and University life posts. It’s a blog for any potential or current students who are interested in PR or University. This blog is a place for me to express my thoughts, laughs and tears of my University experience. I hope this comes in useful to somebody!
I have some experience; not as much as I would like, but enough to secure my love for this industry. During the summer of my first year, I spent 5 weeks at Frank PR. During my time there, I experienced the consumer side of Public Relations. My duties involved pitching to journalists, preparing media lists and influencer work.
Just before I started my placement, I spent one week at Weber Shandwick, London. In my one week I was given a chance to find out more about Tech PR and the way that agencies like Weber Shandwick work. My duties involved, coverage tasks, research, making documents, proofing and editing.
I am currently on placement as a PR Intern with L’Oréal lasting from 2017-2018. The time I spend here will allow me to learn more about the industry whilst building upon my understanding of Public Relations and Communications. I am absolutely loving my time here and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
Ever since completing my very first bit of work experience, I have been looking for ways to further myself. Blogging allows me to carry on dipping into the industry topics until I get the chance to intern. Interning is a vital way to get a view on PR and put what I have learned into practice.
So, welcome to a glance into my life!
Fun fact: I am a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae-Kwon-Do (I’m not that scary, honest!) and all of the photos on this blog have been taken by me! (Apart from the Brangelina post and others which I have referenced!)
Really, I am just your ordinary girl on the University journey. A girl who has decided to share her weird and wonderful thoughts with the world. My weird and wonderful thoughts which are often endless questions for the world but that’s just my inquisitive brain for you….
A PR student blog. A PR student’s view on the world.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy this site as much as I have loved creating it.
