Welcome to my site. I guess you’re here to find a little bit more about me. My name is Lucy Hayball and I have just started my final year at Bournemouth University studying Public Relations following a placement year at L’Oréal working as a PR & Comms intern. A job that I fell in love with.
I never really knew that PR was until I started looking at Universities but now, it is an industry I have absolutely fallen in love with. In September 2015, I packed up and left my home nestled away in Wiltshire to move to Bournemouth to pursue my love for communications. This led me to London to work for L’Oréal, and now I’m back in little old Bournemouth.
WHY THIS BLOG
LucyEmily.co.uk started off as LifeofaPRstudent before moving over to my own site. I’ve always been inquisitive with so many questions for this world. So this blog has kind of become a way for me to express my thoughts and feelings on the PR industry, Uni life, my career or anything else that interested me. My rambles, questions for the world, laughs and tears of my University experience and advice for anyone who might need it.
Frank PR, LDN
In the summer of 2016, I embarked on my very first stint of work experience at Frank. Three weeks getting stuck in with media relations, selling into national and regional press whilst creating client documents, working with influencers, assisting with send outs, brainstorming new ideas and assisting at a film shoot. It ignited my passion for the communications industry and confirmed I had made the right decision.
Weber Shandwick, LDN
Just before I started my industrial placement year, I spent one week at Weber Shandwick, London. In just one week I was given a chance to find out more about Tech PR and the way that agencies like Weber Shandwick work. My duties involved, coverage tasks, research, making documents, proofing and editing.
I spent my placement year as PR & Communications Intern within the Active Cosmetics division at L’Oréal working across Vichy, La Roche-Posay, Roger&Gallet, SkinCeuticals, Sanoflore and CeraVe. I had the best year of my life on placement. I learnt so much and developed even more myself. Whilst on placement I was involved in social media management (including content creation), influencer strategy, coverage tasks, event planning & support, stock management and more. It opened my eyes to the incredible world that is the beauty industry and I loved every minute.
Imagination PR, LDN
Straight after finishing at L’Oréal, I spent five weeks at Imagination PR, one of our PR agencies. After working in-house for a year I wanted to see what it was like from the agency side that I had been working with for a year. So I spent time with them, still working on Vichy, SkinCeuticals and Sanoflore but their other clients too. Here I was incharge of coverage monitoring and management, reports, mailings and client documents. This cemented my 360 view of how clients and agencies work together and the differences between them.
As you can tell, I’m always looking for ways to further myself and love interning. I love seeing what I have learnt come to life and learn more to bring back to the classroom. And then whilst I am back at University blogging allows me to carry on dipping into the industry topics I am most interested in.
Britain’s Best PR Student Blogger 2017
Still to this day, I can’t come to terms with the fact that is me. In May 2017, I was awarded the title of Britain’s Best PR Student Blogger 2017 and I am so proud of this. I never thought this could happen when I started my blog – one of the reasons I started it was to conquer my fear of people reading my writing and look where I am now.
It is still hard to believe people come to this site to read what I have written. Read what I have written. Reading my endless thoughts. But without people reading, this site would not be where it is and I am so grateful.
So, welcome to a glance into my life!
Fun fact: I am a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae-Kwon-Do (I’m not that scary, honest!)
Really, I am just your ordinary girl on the University journey. A girl who has decided to share her weird and wonderful thoughts with the world. My weird and wonderful thoughts which are often endless questions for the world but that’s just my inquisitive brain for you….
A PR student blog. A PR student’s view on the world.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy this site as much as I have loved creating it.
