Hello there! I guess you’re here to find out a little more about me then? My name is Lucy Hayball and I graduated last year from Bournemouth University with a first class degree in Public Relations.
I never really knew what PR was until I started looking at Universities but now, it is an industry that I have absolutely fallen in love with. In September 2015, I packed up and left my family home in Wiltshire to move to Bournemouth to pursue my love for communications. This further led me to London, working for beauty giant L’Oreal before graduating and starting my career. Fast forward to now and you’ll find me nestled away in London working in Beauty PR for a communications agency.
WHY THIS BLOG
LucyEmily.co.uk started off as LifeofaPRstudent before moving over to my own site six months later. This blog was created as a way to express my thoughts and questions for the world, PR industry, University life (when I was a student!), my career and anything else that interested me. It’s my own little space on the internet for my rambles, questions for the world, laughs and tears of graduate life and advice for anyone who might need it.
Frank PR, LDN (2016)
At the end of my first year of University, I spent three weeks at Frank. These three weeks consisted of selling into national and regional press whilst creating client documents, working with influencers, assisting with send outs, brainstorming new ideas and assisting at a film shoot. It ignited my passion for the communications industry and confirmed I had made the right decision.
Weber Shandwick, LDN (2017)
Just before my placement year, I was invited by the CEO of Weber Shandwick to spend time with their Tech team in London. I was able to see how a large agency like this operated alongside assisting the team with coverage tasks, research, client documents, proofing and editing.
L’Oréal UK&Ireland, LDN (2017-2018)
My placement year was spent as a PR & Communications intern within the Active Cosmetics division at L’Oréal UK&Ireland in London. Here, I worked with the wider team across Vichy, La Roche-Posay, Roger&Gallet, SkinCeuticals, Sanoflore and CeraVe. My role included social media & community management (including content creation), influencer strategy and outreach, coverage tasks, event support, research projects and more. It opened my eyes to the incredible world that is the beauty industry and I loved every minute. I had the best year of my life on placement and it made me even more excited to see where I would be after University. You can read all about it here.
Imagination PR, LDN (2018)
Straight after finishing my placement year, I spent five weeks with Imagination PR, one of our PR agencies. After working in-house for a year I wanted to experience how a Beauty PR agency operated, cementing a 360 view of how both work together and their differences.
Bux + Bewl Communications, LDN (2019)
After finishing University in summer 2019, I went on to start my very first graduate role only two and a half weeks later (can you tell I’m a keen bean yet?!) as a Junior Communications Executive. I’m back in London, the place I love, doing what I love and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Britain’s Best PR Student Blogger 2017
Still to this day, I can’t come to terms with the fact that is me. In May 2017, I was awarded the title of Britain’s Best PR Student Blogger 2017 and I am so proud of this. I never thought this could happen when I started my blog – one of the reasons I started it was to conquer my fear of people reading my writing and look where I am now.
It is still hard to believe people come to this site to read what I have written. Read what I have written. Reading my endless thoughts. But without people reading, this site would not be where it is and I am so grateful.
So, welcome to a glance into my life!
Fun fact: I am a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae-Kwon-Do (I’m not that scary, honest!)
Really, I am just your ordinary girl starting out in the PR world, doing what she loves. Someone who has decided to share her weird and wonderful thoughts with the world. My weird and wonderful thoughts which are often endless questions for the world but that’s just my inquisitive brain for you….
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy this site as much as I have loved creating it.
