I may have been at university for a whole academic year now, but there’s still two questions that I am always asked: ‘What is PR?’ and ‘Why did you choose to study it?’ If I am going to be honest with you all, I’m not too sure why I chose Public Relations! For years when I was younger, I had always wanted to be a teacher, then it was a graphic designer, next a web designer and now it’s PR. So I guess I have always wanted to do something relatively creative. I discovered an interest for the media when I started a Media Studies course at A level. From that moment on, I knew I was interested in the world of the media, I just didn’t know what part of it. Being able to study it enthused me to find out more about how the industry worked. When I started looking at universities, it was between Marketing and PR – the open days made up my mind in the end! I’m really glad I chose this course though. When I applied, I had a vague understanding of the industry and course content but I did not really know what to expect. Even when I started, people would ask me what PR was and I would laugh along with them and explain my vague definition when realistically, I didn’t really know. Even now, after a whole year studying PR, my parents still ask me what exactly it is I study! I am still finding out things about…
